About RDA:
Robertson Dance Academy is an energetic, fun and enthusiastic dance school based in Fife, Scotland. Weekly classes are available in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Scottish Highland Dancing, Commercial Street Dance, AcroDANCE and Musical Theatre.
Children have the opportunity to take part in dance school shows, enter dance competitions and take examinations under The British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD). Tiny Toes: From 2 years old children can join the Tiny Toes Ballet or Tiny Toes Tap classes where they will learn the foundations of dance, music and movement. Starlite 1 & Starlite 2: Following on from Tiny Toes, children aged 3 - 5 years old can continue to study Ballet or Tap as well as pick up some of our other subjects on offer such as Modern, AcroDANCE or Scottish Highland Dancing. In the Starlite classes the children will learn set syllabus exercises and will take part in BATD examinations for the first time. First Steps: From age 6 - 7 years old our First Steps dancers will learn to link dance steps into one another, building on the set exercises from Starlite 1 & Starlite 2 to create dance routines. Pre-Primary & Primary: By the age of 8 years children will now be comfortable with the basics in their chosen dance style(s) and will start to learn more complex exercises. They will also be expected to learn and remember combinations of movements to form dance routines and work on flexibility. Grade 1 - 5: Children will progress up the BATD graded examinations improving on dance technique, strength, flexibility, posture, musicality and performance with each grade. Musical Theatre Class: This class is just for fun! Combining singing, acting & dancing, children can join our Musical Theatre Performance classes once they go into Primary 1. Commercial Street Dance: Full of the latest chorography in Commercial Jazz and Street Dance, this class is fresh and funky! There are no set dance examinations and children can join when they go into Primary 4. |
Meet The Team:
Miss Gillian - Principal Teacher & Owner
My love of dance started at the age of three when I was sent to Ballet classes by my mum. I took to it instantly and a couple of years later I started Highland Dancing followed shortly by Tap, Modern, Jazz and Musical Theatre.
Over the years I worked through my graded examinations in all subjects, building on technique and performance skills as I got older. I have been involved in numerous shows, competitions throughout the country and have danced in the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Whilst in the Tattoo I began my training to become a teacher and took a position as a class assistant at 'The Fiona Henderson School of Dancing', the dance school I had been a pupil of since the age of 5 years old when I took up Highland Dancing. After a couple of months of sitting exams I moved on to teaching my own classes for Fiona in the Peebles branch of her dance school. I continued to teach for a further 3 years, giving up my role as a teacher to open Robertson Dance Academy in 2011.
I am now a registered associate of the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD) and the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing (SOBHD) and hold Registered Teacher status with the British Ballet Organisation. I also have teaching memberships with Acrobatic Arts, i-D Dance Company and Progressing Ballet Technique. I am fully disclosed and have an enhanced Baby & Child First Aid Certificate as well as a qualification in Adult First Aid.

Today, apart from running RDA, I still regularly take part in dance classes, training courses and workshops to keep up to date with the latest technique (and to keep fit!).
Many of the friends I met at dance classes as a child, I am still good friends with today. They have been a great support in the setup and running of Robertson Dance Academy over the years, but my biggest supporter by far has been my mum, Liz. I would just like to thank her and the rest of my family, my husband David and my son's Oscar & Alfie for supporting my dream and helping to make RDA the success that it is today. It turns out my mum made the best decision to send me to my first Ballet class all those years ago!
